FIRST DRINK BANNING ORDER IN ENGLAND AND WALES
A Banbury man received the first drink banning order in England and Wales in December 2009, after repeatedly breaching the Exclusion Notices placed on him by Banbury Pubwatch, a part of Cherwell Crime Partnership.
PS Bryan Percival of the Neighbourhood Policing Team said, 'The drink banning order imposed on Ryan Kane by Banbury Magistrates is a milestone and give partnerships and Pubwatch groups real power to deal with persistent offenders through the courts'.
This first order bans Mr Kane from entering any part of a licensed public house or club, purchasing alcohol, drinking alcohol in a public place, being in possession of an open container of alcohol or being in any way disorderly whilst under the influence of alcohol in Banbury.
Bans can be from 2 months to 2 years and Mr Kane was given a full 2 year ban. A great deal of evidence gathering and statement taking detaling the impact on licensees, their staff and customers was undertaken by officers from the Banbury Town neighbourhood team to secure the order.
